The group first meeting was in March 2013 in Finland with the main objective of enable scientists to meet and exchange their new research and data.
In that occasion a provisional board consisting of 7 people: Chairman/Vice-Chair/Secretary/Treasurer and 3 other committee members. It was committed to do regular meetings in different locations with invited speakers and to define the objectives of the group.
The Guidelines were endorsed by the Executive Committee of the EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes) on 14 January 2013.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020 many researchers, the scientific community especially the young researchers have benefit from attending online meetings that kept them updated and established a link between young and more experienced researchers. The group decided to organized its First Virtual meeting originally planned as a face-to-face in Athens, Greece.
The great success of that meeting with a record of attendance and live participation encouraged us to keep using that format: the attendance went over 200 people, so many young and excellent researchers, with good discussions in a relax atmosphere. Since that the Study Group organize virtual meetings and webinars with abstracts presentations with an award prize to the best presentations to researches under 40 years.
